Joyce Chung and Henry Wong join seed and early-stage venture capital firm

PALO ALTO, California, October 3, 2007—Garage Technology Ventures, a leading seed-stage and early-stage venture capital fund, has named high-tech veterans Joyce Chung and Henry Wong as senior additions to its team. Joyce Chung joins Garage in the role of Managing Director and Henry Wong joins in the capacity of Venture Partner.

Garage is expanding to take advantage of the opportunities it sees for investing in seed and early-stage startups and to support the growth of its portfolio of emerging technology companies.

“Garage has built a lot of momentum over the past couple of years and now we need to augment our team,” said Managing Director Bill Reichert. “Joyce brings the experience of a veteran venture investor to Garage, plus her operating experience in small and large technology companies. Henry brings 25 years of success as a high-tech entrepreneur. In combination, they are excellent additional resources for Garage and our portfolio companies.”

Joyce Chung has more than 10 years of operating experience in technology companies and another 10 years of venture capital investing experience. In 2000, she co-founded Cardinal Venture Capital and was successful in making it a top-tier performing fund with investments in companies like Chipcon (acquired by Texas Instruments), Live Capital, Mobilygen, Valista, and Zilliant. Prior to Cardinal, Joyce was a Director at Adobe Ventures, a corporate venture fund, and she held managerial positions at Adobe Systems and Sony Corporation, where she was involved in digital media. She has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Henry Wong comes to Garage as an active Venture Partner and has been taking a hands-on operating role in Garage’s portfolio companies. Since 2002, Henry has served as an advisor at Garage while also running a China-focused fund, Diamond TechVentures. He has also been a venture partner at Crystal Ventures, where he worked with companies like SMIC, LGC Wireless, Infinera and Exavio. During his extensive career in the networking and communications industry, Henry was CEO and founder of SS8 Networks, as well as co-founding and leading IP Communications, XaQti Semiconductor, CNet Technology and Combinet. Henry holds a B.Sc. degree in Business from the University of Utah and an M.B.A. in Telecom Management from Golden Gate University.
